The 25th Infantry Division (Light) headquarters is located in building 580. Constructed in 1939 the building's first occupants were a signal company, an ordnance company and a quartermaster detachment. After World War II it was the home of a cooks and bakers school. In 1957, the joint US Army, Hawaii and the 25th Infantry Division headquarters occupied the building. After a reorganization in 1961, US Army, Hawaii became the sole occupant until the formation of the US Army Support Command at Fort Shafter and the return of the 25th Infantry Division in 1975. The building is named for Specialist Four Daniel Fernandez, who was awarded the Medal of Honor for falling on an enemy grenade to protect fellow soldiers in the Republic of Vietnam.
