Where the golf club stands now is the site of the former Kalakaua Ranch House, built by King David Kalakaua and Charles Judd in 1882. The house was later used as the Commanding General’s Quarters and the King Kalakaua Golf and Country Club. The ranch house was taken down after World War II. The 18 hole golf course was constructed in 1934 and was also used as a supplementary air strip during World War II.
