5. Hangar 3


Hangar 3 was one of the most severely damaged structures on the base. On Dec 7, 1941 it held a tremendous amount of ammunition, including several million rounds of .50 caliber ammo that had been taken out of the planes on the ramp and stored in this hangar as an anti-sabotage measure.

The roar of flames in Hangar 3 was punctuated by firecracker-like explosions
from the great quantity of ammunition stored in the hangar.
